Stirred job seekers clash with cops, detained

KOLKATA: Tension reigned outside Kalighat metro station after upper primary job seekers began demonstrating there on Wednesday, demanding immediate recruitment.

Despite repeated police warnings, protesters attempted to march towards Hazra Passage from Kalighat metro station in order to reach the house of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

When the police intercepted the demonstrators, the situation turned violent when the job seekers were involved in a confrontation with the police.

Having no other way, the police arrested several demonstrators. It had been alleged that protesters had started obstructing traffic and shoving police personnel.

Later the cops arrested them. It was alleged that a few protesters were injured in the scuffle.

It can be mentioned that about a week ago job seekers attempted to reach the office of the General Secretary of All India Trinamool Congress,

Abhishek Banerjee on Camac Street when police intercepted the rally. A fight broke out between the protesters and the police. It was alleged that protesters attempted to obstruct police by lying down in front of police vans. Later, the police arrested several protesters and cleared the road.
