Cops impersonate job seekers to bust fake call center | Kolkata News

KOLKATA: Dressed in formal attire and posing as job seekers appearing for an interview, Bidhannagar On Thursday, cops raided a fake call center in Chinar Park. The call center duped residents in Germany, Ireland and the United States under the guise of offering technical assistance. The crackdown follows a complaint filed by Microsoft Corporation (India) Pvt Ltd.
Throughout the operation, which saw the arrest of four of its officials and the seizure of several digital items and documents, German law enforcement officials were kept informed.
At around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, four officers from the Bidhannagar City Police Detective Department reached the New Town Square commercial building in Chinar Park and entered the ground floor reception as job seekers stood presenting for interview at AG Info Solve Pvt. Ltd on the fourth floor of the building.
While four men initially climbed up and entered the 4L office, soon a group of four other agents climbed up and stood outside the office door to make sure none could get out. Over the next hour, more police – all in plainclothes – began to enter the building and took up positions on several floors, outside elevators and emergency exits. The receptionist tried to let the building attendants know they were there, but the cops told her not to and just pretend nothing had happened.
“It was like a scene from a movie. It took me a while to realize it was a police raid. But we all cooperated with them realizing they were cops,” said said the receptionist.
The raid continued for more than 11 hours as cops took control of the office, cut telephone connections and took their cell phones before grilling senior officials, including the two directors – Gurav Jain and Sachin Toshniwal – for more than five hours straight before collapsing and confessing their crime.
Apart from Jain and Toshniwal, two others – Raneet Acharya and Prasenjit Hari – were also arrested and convicted under several sections relating to cheating and forgery. They appeared in a court in Bidhannagar on Friday and were taken into custody for six days.
“The complaint was drafted based on a complaint filed by Microsoft Corp (India). The modus operandi came to light when plaintiff received information from aggrieved victims that they had been defrauded in the name of providing technical support and the company took payments on behalf of Intraxis,” an officer said. from the Bidhannagar police station.
